Exploring Simple Shapes and Essential Design With Ditte Vad

The Danish creative mind Ditte Vad is a furniture and interior designer living and working in Aarhus, Denmark who returns to the essential with her beautiful designs. She studied design at the TEKO institute of VIA University College and with an interest in graphic design and photography, find inspiration in several disciplines of global cultures.

Besides following the line of Nordic design tradition, Ditte also explores Japanese influences and graphic lines in her furniture pieces. “My work is characterized by a fondness of highly defined lines and graphical compositions,” Ditte notes. Taking it back to the essential, the designs have simple yet straightforward and elegant shapes, which make for a timeless aesthetic. The designer is always exploring and experimenting with new forms, techniques, and materials, striving to “meet the potential of new compositions and innovative solutions”.

Mostly relying on sober and neutral colors like beige, black, and grey, the pieces radiate a serene and soft feel. Especially the Arc coffee table. It attracted a lot of attention in the design world and is a perfect representation of Ditte’s minimalistic design philosophy. The project was created in collaboration with fellow Danish designer Julie Begtrup and was a finalist for the FSC design award.

It’s easy to recognize the minimalistic outlines and tactile feel that are present in all of Ditte’s designs. "As designers, we have the opportunity and ability to improve and affect the surroundings, "Ditte says. “I aim to create design that allows interaction between the design and its user. I strongly believe that this interaction is an important feature because it contributes to stimulate the tactile senses, which affect the way we experience the world.”
