FAINA Design presented a beautiful new design piece at the art fair Collectible 2020. The DOMNA is a stunner of an armchair with elegant, feminine shapes and a soft cloud-like feel. “This new design piece with a soft, and at the same time hawkish temper, tends to be the mistress of any space,” says its designer Victoriya Yakusha, the creative mind behind the Ukrainian studio FAINA Design.
The award-winning brand was founded by Victoriya in 2014 and is known for its elegant, minimalist style. FAINA products are available in world cities like Paris, New York, London, Stockholm, and more, representing the brand as an ambassador of Ukrainian modern design. The furniture, lighting, and decor collections in which Victoriya blends modern and traditional elements consists of simple forms with a deep philosophy and sensitive feel. The sustainable approach of contemporary living is linked with our ancestors’ relation with nature. Therefore, mainly organic materials like clay, wool, linen, and wood are used. “The FAINA collection is my artistic manifest, a celebration of Ukrainian modern female design with a strong connection to cultural roots. I am trying to create long-living design pieces with soul, that will become ‘family members’ for the people,” says Victoriya. One such soulful and feminine design is her newest creation: the DOMNA armchair.
The chair has a playful yet sophisticated and elegant design. The feminine shapes were influenced by an ancient goddess figure, making the design even more divine. Victoriya was inspired by archeological finds from the period of the Trypillia culture. The shape of the ancient ceramic sculptures of a goddess spoke to her. “DOMNA repeats these mild feminine forms and carries an extraordinary warmth and cloud-like softness,” says the designer. Translating to “stove” or a rare female name meaning “priestess,” the Ukrainian name DOMNA really captures the essence of the design of this unique chair.
