PPAA, short for Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados, is a Mexican architecture office "driven by an architecture of ideas over an architecture of forms.” Seeing architecture as an open medium, the studio always considers the context of a project and the challenges it brings. With nature being an important aspect of their designs, the firm strives for a sensorial atmosphere in their properties. Casa La Quinta is one of PPAA’s stunning projects in which they perfectly translate the identity and context of the site into a home.

La Quinta is a weekend house in San Miguel de Allende, México, designed for a retired couple. The preexisting neighboring walls defined the general layout and design of the sober home, resulting in a secluded getaway. The house is arranged around three courtyards serving as private outdoor spaces. In the center of the site, you’ll find the largest patio with a swimming pool and hammock rocking above it. Having no views on any landscape, the courtyards each have their own character and use, providing lovely outdoor experiences and giving the residence its character.

“The distribution in the ground floor plan came from this concept as well, where there are no boundaries within the social space and the outdoor area,” PPAA notes. The sober palette of the outdoor walls continues in the interior where soft hues of beige, cream, and brown prevail. Exposed wooden beams, natural materials, and a fireplace create a cozy and organic atmosphere. The seamless connection, both in architectural layout, color, and material palette, of the indoor spaces and the courtyards creates a peaceful oasis where the residents can enjoy their free time both indoors and outdoors.
