Studio Rem Founder Michael Remerich finds inspiration in the most interesting places. His creative outlets aren’t found in clear blue skies, but, instead, in days clouded with fog, rain, and a peaceful stillness. In Nebl, the Berlin-based designer captures the allure and mystery of gloomy days in an innovative planter that exudes the effortless beauty in simplicity.

Michael founded Studio Rem in 2012 in Berlin and was immediately nominated for the Talents Awards by the German design council. He has created numerous trailblazing designs since then, which have won him several awards including the German Design Award, Archiproduct Award, and A&W Newcomer of the Year. Studio Rem breathes a passion for design and a love for telling stories through each and every product. Nebl, the glass and ceramic planter, won Michael the Archiproducts Design Award last year.

The captivating planter is shrouded in mystery, calmness, and—quite literally—fog. Michael says the idea for the design came from an afternoon out in nature. “During a foggy day, we walked through this park near our apartment in Berlin, with beautiful old trees standing around and a wonderfully-arranged garden area,” he says. “Normally, it’s very busy and noisy, but on this day, everything was so silent and calm. The surrounding fog made the world become so pleasantly small. And as we walked through this small world, all the things that we were able to see became so present. We realized that we got our focus back on things which are mostly hidden by the flood of impressions of our everyday environment. And I think that´s the magic of those foggy days.” Michael represented that day in the design through pure and minimalistic details that breathe a stillness into the piece. Even the name, ‘fog’ in German, carries the intent of the design.

Nebl consist of a ceramic base in which the plant is placed, along with a frosted glass to top. It is produced by Gejst and is available in the sizes ‘large’ and ‘mega.’ The result is a statement piece that takes a simple plant and creates a mesmerizing story.
